“Celebrating all that we are and all that we can be”

Eco Council

Our newly formed Eco Council is made up from our Pupil Governors and Junior Travel Ambassadors.  We are working towards Eco-Schools Green Flag accreditation.  The reasons we have decided to embark on this journey is that we want to look after our planet by highlighting the effects of climate change, plastic pollution, diodiversity loss and other environmental challenges including sustainable travel.  We hope that by doing this it will empower our pupils with the passion and skills to protect our planet now and throughout their lifetimes.

We have started this journey by completing an Eco-Schools Environmental Review which we will then turn into an action plan.  Our initial ideas include:

  • Promoting sustainable travel such as walking and scooting via our WOW Travel Tracker.
  • Monitoring our use of energy starting with monitoring the effective use of lights in classrooms.
  • Thinking about healthy living and promoting daily exercise.
  • Improving our school grounds - we have already planted more trees donated by the Woodland Trust.
  • Enhancing our school grounds - we are improving our science & nature garden area which we will rename the 'Jubilee Garden' when it is finished and we have planted our Jubilee Tree.  We also want to include a Time Capsule with this.

The Eco Council also have lots of ideas about fundraising including recycling clothes.

They have also launched their first competition which is to encourage the reuse and recycling of Christmas materials over the Christmas break.  See attached poster:
